Calorie Counting

where do i start? I recently posted a before and after weight loss picture which was 6 months apart so i thought it would be a good idea to update my blog since its been 6 months since my last post also

After posting this picture I got a lot of messages asking me how I had managed to loose 2 stone in 6 months. I am still following slimming world but like i mentioned in my last post I use a free app on my phone called lose it which i record my daily calories on. It has been easier for me to log and see how many calories I am in taking everyday for me to keep to a loss every week. The app asks you your weight and height and makes a calculation on how many calories you should be eating everyday to reach your overall weight loss goal. It has loads of food already stored on the app so you just search and find it and tells you how many calories it has, you can also scan bar codes to make it quicker than searching.

when logging my food i try to have between 800-1200 calories a day for me to have a loss at the end of the week. I need to clarify that i did not do any excersize or workouts except regular everyday walking. I do walk everywhere and that is how i get around because i dont drive so i probably do walk more than an average person who gets around by car or bus. If i was working out or excersizing i would have made my calorie intake a lot more.

I am not on a diet & i am not obsessed with loosing weight. I have changed the whole way i eat to make better decisions and have a healthier lifestyle all together. I am at my goal weight now but that doesn't mean to say i now can eat whatever i want. To maintain all my hard work i am still going to eat healthy and continue to do what i have been doing over the last 11 months to loose my overall 5 stone. I don't need to loose anymore weight but i do need to tone up so that is my next goal.

Maybe you are at a stand still with your weight loss or cant seem to shred the extra few pounds that you need to. honestly try calorie counting it has worked wonders for me & doesn't take long to do. Don't do these unrealistic 3 day "diets" to loose 10lb or shake diets because once you start eating normally again your just going to pile the weight back on. People don't believe me when I say I eat loads but I do eat loads I just eat healthily. 3-4 meals a day of healthy options and your 5 a day with lots of speed food and going to bed full on an evening is how iv lost my weight.

Food isn't our enemy. I am going to insert a few pictures below of foods that can boost your metabolism. foods that break down fat & so on.. it isn't hard to take time out of searching through gorgeous girls on Instagram who have the perfect figure just wishing you could be like them  FYI that was me :) & this is obvious but drink plenty of water. Cold water makes your metabolism work harder to get it to reach body temperature.

Oil pulling with coconut oil

Anyone who personally knows me will know I recently had my implant contraception removed due to awful mood swings and an array of other side effects. Whilst researching about the implant and the effects it had on women's bodies I came across a website for oil pulling with coconut oil. I had never heard of it before EVER even though its apparently been around for years. I began reading about all the benefits of oil pulling and read loads and loads of reviews and decided I definitely need this in my life, I didn't come by a bad review or post there was only good things to say about coconut oil so I got myself a jar online which was only £2 and waited for it to be delivered to my house. It took about 2 days to arrive so in these 2 days I took to youtube where I found tutorials on how to do it properly. Every single woman who was doing these tutorials had amazingly white teeth & who doesn't want that from just spending £2 and its all Natural!

What is Oil Pulling?
It’s where you take a tablespoon of coconut oil & you swish it in your mouth [pulling between your teeth] for 20 minutes before spitting it out when you are done (into a bin) not down the sink as it blocks it up when dry. Brush your teeth and tongue well afterwards.

Coconut oil is antibacterial, antiviral, antimicrobial, & anti-fungal. These things are great for your oral health and many other things.

Image result for 10 day coconut oil pulling challenge]The benefits of oil pulling are..

- Whitens teeth
- Prevents cavities
- TMJ relief
- Soothes throat dryness
- Freshens breath
- Alleviates headache
- Strengthens teeth & gums
- Increases energy
- Draws out toxins
- Heals skin issues (acne)
- Aids hormonal changes
- Heals cracked lips
- Helps alleviate sinus congestion
- Helps detox the body

I've even read it can help cure hangovers. I mean, what doesn't coconut oil do and why isn't more widely advertised? oh yeah because it costs next to nothing... most teeth whitening bleaches and other things are so expensive yet sometimes don't work probably causing even more damage to your teeth. On the tutorials I was watching it was saying to do it in the morning but you can do it whenever and wherever you feel like.

My experience with coconut oil pulling

The first time I did it was when I was watching Emmerdale so in the evening 7pm GMT time. I opened the jar and was quite apprehensive about sticking a great blob of hard oil into my mouth. My first initial reaction! it was absolutely vile! it was hard and I had to swish it round my mouth until it all dissolved and actually after 10 seconds I couldn't taste anything because my mouth was kept shut. I didn't expect the texture or taste of it because its like nothing iv ever tasted before.

I set a timer of 20 minutes on my phone and went back to watching Emmerdale and before I knew it, it was time to spit it out, time went surprisingly quick because I had my mind on something else. So I spat it out into the bin and brushed my teeth and tongue thoroughly. My teeth felt amazing! squeaky clean infact! when I ran my tongue over my teeth they felt so so clean.

I took a picture before my first try and couldn't see any changes in colour but it was only my first time doing it. I carried on doing this every single evening sometimes even twice a day for 7 days and I could notice so much difference in colour they were white and shiny! after about 10 days even my family and friends started to notice and asking me what I used to whiten my teeth, they couldn't believe it when I told them it was just natural coconut oil. I now only do it 2-3 times a week to keep it topped up.

Where did I buy my coconut oil from?

Since using this my skin has also been a lot clearer and barely any break outs. I had my implant removed so I don't know whether it was that or the help of coconut oil pulling that has helped my hormones to calm down but I can finally give an honest review and say this stuff is amazing and if you have heard of it before and was considering doing it I would recommend it 100%. If you can get over the initial taste as you put it in your mouth and just think of all the benefits it is doing for your body then this is the perfect thing for you.

I'm going to leave a few links below so you can do a bit of research and reading on it yourself if you like. I would love to hear from anyone that has tried it before or has decided to give it ago because of this blog post and update me on how it is working for you.

This blog post has a lot of regular questions asked and answers to them. very helpful

Slimming World Breakfast & Lunches

Sorry its been a while since I last
posted. I started a new job :) After not working for 2 years it was hard to get back into a routine but I needed to get writing on here again as there has been so many people asking me how iv lost all my weight and what I have been eating. I am so happy to say that I have lost 3 stone so far all thanks to slimming world! I Have dropped 2 dress sizes and feel amazing about myself which when I first started I didn't think was ever going to happen again. I took a picture of myself in these jeans when I first started and decided to try them on again when I came across them in my drawer and to my absolute amazement they were like a tent on me! Baggy on the waist legs and bum. I couldn't believe it! My main aim when I started was to be able to fit back into my prom dress,I still haven't brought myself to try that on yet so going to give myself a few more months to save disappointment if it doesn't quite fit.

Ok enough about me lets get down to why im really writing this post and that is to try and help or guide you to loose weight. If you haven't already seen my post slimming world dinners go check that out because this one is going to be about breakfast and lunches I have eaten most days to achieve my weight loss.

When I started slimming world I used to write out a 7 day meal plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner using the slimming world website. Like I said in my last post I couldn't afford the subscription fee to join slimming world properly so I have just learnt it all myself by searching through different posts online. I also use social media as my main platform to find recipe ideas. I follow numerous amounts of slimming world people on Instagram and save any food pictures I want to cook myself. If you search slimmingworld in the search bar it should come up with a few people with their names followed after, have a flick through and follow the people who cook the style of meal that suit your taste. My usual day would consist of..

Breakfast - Plain porridge with fruit or fruit and fibre cereal with fruit (mainly strawberries or raspberries as they are a speed food)

Lunch - chicken, egg or tuna salads with as much speed veg as possible or my new favourite found love a grilled toastie using my George Foreman grill

Dinner - pasta dishes (spag bol), curry and hearty meals filled with vegtables (check other post)

I buy all my fruit and veg from Aldi or Lidle it is great value for money and good quality. So in the pictures above is fruit & fibre with strawberries and raspberries with green (semi skimmed) milk. a variety pack of fruit and on the right is porridge with all 3 fruits. You can use a maximum of 375ml milk for your healthy Extra so if your like me and cant live without tea/coffee in the morning use it on that and your cereal breakfasts. Other breakfast options I have are scrambled/poached egg on wholemeal toast or an Omelette made with 2 eggs, light cheese. salt. pepper. spinach and chopped baby tomatoes I sometimes add cooked and sliced bacon medallions or ham too. Oh and not forgetting the full English breakfast slimming world version. All recipes can be found on the link I put above under the breakfast tab and all fried meals cooked with fry light oil. obviously you can change any recipe to suit what you like or have in your fridge/cupboards.

Now onto lunch ideas. When I made meal plans I would sometimes use left over dinner from the night before to heat up and have for lunch the next day, being a mum this saved so much time preparing meals in bulk so I could just grab it out of freezer, defrost and reheat and its ready! I do this with left over spaghetti bolognese and pasta bakes mainly but you could do it with anything really.

Im aware of the spelling mistake lol
my new found love for toasties is unreal you can add anything into it and toast it. who wouldn't love that? If iv cooked a roast chicken for dinner I would usually cut all the meat off and take all fat off and put it in a container in the fridge and use the leftover chicken for these toasties or chicken salads. I used chicken and bacon in this one so I cooked the bacon before put it on top of a slice of wholemeal and sprinkled light cheese over the top. toasted it until melted then opened it up and added the lettuce/spinach afterwards but its all about your own preferences, like I said you can literally add anything that you want too it :)

Salads dont have to be boring and trust me once you find something you like with a salad it makes all the difference. Such as the chicken in the picture above is cooked with the Nandos medium hot seasoning sachet which is 3.5 syns for the whole 25g sachet so using a little sprinkle on a chicken breast would probably be 1 syn or so. If you arent sure on the syn value of something I usually just search it online and there is almost always a thread online which tells you. You are allowed around 15 syns a day or 150 syns a week so you can decide how and when you use your syns.

I make sure that my plate is always half full of speed vegtables/salad or fruit as you are filling yourself up on the goodness instead of rubbish. Dried pasta and rice is also syn free so I tend to fill myself up on those carbohydrates and potatoes. I especially love slimming world chips which I use the same recipe to make roast potatoes just cut them into a different shape. here is the link

This meal of sirloin steak, slimming world chips, peas and green beans is all syn free and very filling. dont eat the fat on the edge of the meat though and try to only have one red meat meal a week.

How I use my syns?
I'm more of a savoury person than sweet so I love crisps and cheese on crackers ect but I do get my chocolate cravings and they are usually on a night time when im watching the soaps. I eat light Alpen bars to snack on. popcorn, nuts and low fat crisps but when I eat chocolate I make sure that I check the syn value before hand and eat what I have left in my daily syn allowance. I sometimes have a cheat meal and sometimes I dont but I always make sure that when I do cheat I enjoy it! Its just about making the right decisions and understanding what is going into your body and how your body reacts to food. Starving yourself isn't realistic and neither are these shake diets because once you stop you are just going to gain it all again. Also drink plenty of water and good luck :)

Here is a link that shows some syn values to regular things people eat.

I haven't put everything I eat into this blog post as it would be full of pictures and information and everyone eats differently so I am going to post a few links below that I have found helpful through my slimming world journey so far. I hope that this has helped someone as I would have loved to have started my slimming world journey earlier. If there is anything I have missed out or any questions you want to ask me please just message me and I would be happy to help :)
this is the website that has been the most help for me as its so clear and easy to understand.

Slimming World Dinners

Hello everyone I have been doing a lot of home cooking lately so I thought I would share a couple with you. I have been doing slimming world for a few months now and it has taught me how much sugar and extra additives and preservatives we don't even realise are in processed food so I prefer to make my own meals. A healthy lifestyle doesn't mean just eating fruits salads and vegetables and starving yourself. infact that is why most diets don't work for people, you end up feeling hungry and snacking.

If you have 3 big healthy meals a day and each of them are a healthy option with fruit, salad, vegetables and the right carbohydrates and protein you will soon start to notice a difference. Each meal will fill you up and leave you full until your next meal. Also by doing this you get your 5 a day easy.

Breakfast is the most important meal as it starts your metabolism up to break down food intake through out the day. If you are like me and cant afford the subscriptions to slimming world then you can just use the recipes online to make you own healthy decisions and cook with low fat products and oil.

Here is a list of different speed foods. speed food is fruit and vegetables that speeds up your metabolism so if eaten regularly and cooperated into each meal will speed up your weight loss. search online for other websites for better explanations. Dried pasta and rice is also syn free on slimming world so you can use this in your meals to fill yourself up.

Slimming World Beef Stew

Snapchat pictures

I Have linked the slimming world recipe above but I changed it slightly and used what Ingredients I had in my house. You cant have stew without dumplings right? but you can have them in modesty. I made small balls and only had one of them.

  • 1 Large onion
  • fry light oil
  • 2 Garlic cloves (crushed)
  • Carrots
  • Sweed
  • 400g steak chunks
  • 400g Beef Stock
  • Tomato puree
  • salt
  • pepper
  1. Pre heat oven to 180 degrees
  2. Spray frying pan with fry light oil. cook steak on medium heat until browned on each side. add chopped onions and fry for 2 mins then add crushed garlic and cook for another 2 mins. Season with salt and pepper
  3. Add beef stock and vegetables (sweed and carrots in my case) but you can use leeks mushrooms ect whatever you want really (the more vegetables the better). simmer for 7 minutes or so then add 2 tablespoons of tomato puree and mix well
  4. Add all contents into a casserole dish, cover and cook on 180 degrees for 2-3 hours.

Slimming world Cottage Pie
I also changed this recipe to suit what ingredients I already had at home. I also added extra vegetables to my plate to make the meal more filling.

  • 250g of lean 5% fat minced beef
  • 1 Large onion
  • 1 Garlic clove sliced
  • Carrots
  • Peas
  • 300g beef stock
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Tomato puree
  • Maris piper potatoes
  • Low fat butter
  • Low fat cheese
  1. Pre heat oven to 180 degrees
  2. Fry the minced beef in a frying pan once browned discard of any fat juices.
  3. Add onion and garlic and fry until onions are soft. season with salt and pepper
  4. Put 2 tablespoons of tomato puree in with 300g of beef stock with the chopped carrots and peas.simmer until thickened
  5. Add to a casserole dish and flatten.
  6. After boiling your potatoes mash with low fat butter until creamy
  7. Place on top of minced beef mixture in casserole dish and make pattern on top with fork
  8. Add cheese and place in oven and cook until golden brown on top

Slimming world Spag Bowl
I changed this recipe also. Adding as may vegetables as you like to each meal will make it more filling but also healthy.

  • 5% lean minced beef
  • Red & green sliced peppers
  • Large onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • Tin of chopped tomatoes
  • Passata (speed food)
  • Tomato puree
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Oregano
  • Pasta
  1. Fry minced beef until browned and tip away any excess fat juices. add onion and garlic and fry until onions are soft
  2. Season with salt pepper and oregano.
  3. Add peppers and any other vegetables you like. mushrooms etc
  4. Add 1 tin of chopped tomatoe, 2 tablespoons of passata and 2 table spoons of tomato puree
  5. Transfer to sauce pan and cook for 15-20 mins ( add 100ml beef stock to make it less tomato flavoured)
  6. Serve with any dried pasta of choice

I had lettuce, spinach and cucumber with mine but I also like to have it with broccoli and green beans.
my daughter also loves all my home made meals and I am a lot happier knowing what it is she is eating.

Hope someone gets a little inspiration from this to start healthy eating and controlling a healthy lifestyle. I will be doing another post on breakfast ideas and an example of my weekly food diary.

TIP- I use the app "lose it" to log all of my food and it tells me how many calories I have had through out the day and is a really good visual way of seeing how many calories each food product contains and it becomes fun to try and make your daily calorie intake lower than the last day. Good luck

Superdrug products

Revolution Make-up Palette with 144 colours
I was online searching the January sales on the super drug website when I came across this palette of eye shadows. It was originally £25 and I brought at a massive bargain price of £4.99!!!!
I had been wanting to try out new eye shadow looks on myself as I wasn't very adventurous when it came to that. my usual look was a winged eye liner or even just mascara and I was done. since purchasing this I have tried so many different looks and I can honestly say I love it!
There is a range of different matte shades and shimmery glitter shades in dark and light. basically every colour you could ever want is right here in this palette and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a drug store cheap alternative to the more expensive branded palettes on the market. obviously I am not saying this palette is going to be identical to the urban decay naked palettes for example but like the saying "you get what you pay for".

Products from super drug own brand
Superdrug is one of my main stores where I buy skin products ect, this is mainly because I like the layout of the website better than others. A few months ago I was browsing online and saw an offer 3 for 2 on Superdrug own brand. So I got...

  1. vitamin E Micellar water
  2. Superdrug simply pure hydrating serum
  3. Superdrug simply pure Gentle eye make up remover.

I use the vitamin E Micellar water every morning and night. It removes invisible dirt. You think your face is clean and you wipe over your face with a cotton pad and the product (obviously) and you wouldn't believe what is still left on your face. Since you can actually see what is coming off your face and the results of how fresh your skin is afterwards I would recommend anyone to use this stuff its brilliant and a great price

After cleaning my face with the vitamin E Micellar water I use the hydrating serum to moisturise my face. I find that this product soaks into the skin very quickly and doesn't leave you feeling like you have a wet face for a long time. since using these together I haven't had any spot breakouts and my skin feels and looks a lot healthier.

I was disappointed with the Gentle eye make up remover as it didn't remove make-up as quickly and as effectively as other brands I have used. I also felt like I had to put a lot of product onto a cotton pad to make the make-up move. two out of three products isn't bad though for the offers.

If you would like to look at these products on their website here are the links

Making Slimming world curry

Welcome All
Around November 2014 I started my slimming world journey and have so far lost 2 Stone. I decided to challenge my self and make this slimming world curry. Some of the ingredients I didn't have so I just used what I had in my cupboards. I have left a link to the recipe above so you can check out all the ingredients for yourself.
Firstly I had never cooked with any spices or herbs before so it was all completely new to me. I chopped and measured each ingredient and added them together to start my curry. Everything seemed to be going perfectly, that was until I added the natural yoghurt. It had given it a very bitter taste and I was thinking about throwing the whole lot away as it was so disgusting but instead I improvised and started adding a few different ingredients of my own to give it more taste. I crumbled up another chicken stock cube straight to the curry and mixed it in for more flavour I then added garlic salt and pepper tasting along the way and finally it tastes amazing!
Me and my partner both had clean plates. Since trying this recipe I have encouraged myself to make a lot more home cooked meals which are a lot more satisfying than ordering a takeaway as you know exactly what ingredients are included and how many syns each serving is.

My new born baby experience

I am going to write my first blog post on what my experience was like as a new mum. I'm going to skip out the pregnancy and labour as I didn't have good experiences through either of them. My pregnancy sickness started at 6 weeks and didn't stop until the day I gave birth, yes there was odd days where I wouldn't have sickness but it didn't last very long and maybe my labour and delivery story is for another post.

After being 11 days over my due date and a long 8 hours in labour my beautiful baby girl arrived at 4.58am n the 18th of july 2014 weighing a tiny 5lb 13. The feeling and emotions I felt as she was placed onto my chest will forever be embedded in my memory. It was by far the most surreal and magical moment in my life. Suddenly I was a mum and this tiny beautiful baby depended on me, She needed me and I needed her. Straight away she felt like the missing puzzle piece in my life. The perfect addition to mine and Terry's relationship.

I had to stay in the Hospital over night with our newly named Lacie-May Rose Green. This was the thing I had been dreading through my pregnancy. What if I didn't know what to do? What if I couldn't do it? What if im not good enough? Were all the questions I kept asking myself. When the time came Terry had to leave as visiting hours were over and I was left on my own with our newborn baby. All the worrying and questions I was asking myself didn't seem relevant any more I had a baby that needed me and I felt like a new person. I felt like a maternal instinct just took over my body and I just somehow knew what I had to do? I don't know if anyone else felt like this or it was just me but that is how I felt at the time.
My original plan was to breastfeed but this didn't go to plan so instead I bottle fed Lacie-May she fed every four hours and was absolutely perfect in every single way. Despite being awake for nearly 48 hours previous I still couldn't get any sleep for the whole night in the hospital. Every little noise or movement she made I was there looking over her. Finally 8am came (start of visiting hours) Terry came round the curtain looking well rested unlike me who had been a nervous wreck all night but I still felt like adrenaline was taking over. The best thing was seeing the look on Terry's face when he got to see his daughter again I mean how could I not be completely in love with these two beautiful people that have created my future and family.

Me and Terry spent the rest of the day on the maternity ward as new parents on the hottest day of the year. The ward was unbearably hot but despite of this we were just over the moon to have our baby girl here, healthy and safe. FINALLY! it was time to go home, back to my parents where we lived. my mum was picking us up. The car seat we brought all those months ago finally had our little bundle of joy squished into it. Firstly before we could go home we had to take a trip out to get her some "Tiny Baby" clothes as all of the clothes we had brought for her were far too big. A new mum with barely any sleep for the past 3-4 days and I was out and about shopping for clothes. I felt amazing, A little sore but still amazing none the less.

The next few days as a new mum was so tiring. I hadn't yet had the chance to catch up with my sleep and to make it even better Lacie-May was demand feeding every 2 hours day and night. I kept waking up during the night nearly every night shouting at Terry get up get up your laying on the baby, For some reason I was so afraid of this I would dream about it nearly every night and not be awake enough to look beside me in the Moses basket to find her fast asleep. Eventually these dreams stopped and I started to relax and I guess trust myself.

Of course I am now writing from 18 months experience and not through the day to day life of a new mother. I can remember Lacie-May crying/screaming every night at around the same time. The first time was when I got her out the bath and wrapped her in a towel. She screamed so loud and wouldn't stop I thought there must have been something in the towel or something really hurting her. There wasn't. I found out it was trapped wind that builds up through the day and its very common.
I enjoyed every early morning wake up call. making bottles. burping her. watching her little smiles appear and watching her little tiny features changing every single day. Of course everyday wasn't all sunshine and roses and there was times I sat and cried with her but isn't that only normal? how much "newness" can one person take. The day your first little baby is born your whole life changes forever and for me my whole life from that very second has been 100% better.

I hope you have enjoyed my first post on my new blog. I am not quite sure how long people would want to read for but if you would like to read more about the every day events of having a new born I would happily sit her and type them all day for you. Leave comments thank you. Katie
